I’m so excited to share our summer home tour with you today as a part of a group of home design bloggers. I’m sharing our new patio, our front porch, our kid areas and a super fun, super easy 4th of July Campfire S’mores Cone Recipe and setup that you can whip together for the weekend.
If you’re new here and love easy approachable home design, be sure to check out our laundry room, green home tour, family room, guest room, office, our nursery and big boy room. If you’re a regular, thanks for coming back! Let’s start the tour!
Our New Patio
We designed our patio very simply and affordably with only one goal in mind: Dinner outside. This can be dinner with our little family of four, with friends, with neighbors. I just wanted to create outside summer memories with our kids and we’ve already done it so much in the one month we’ve had this space.
The white table is from Ikea and the chairs are all from World Market. The navy and white striped chairs are priced super low right now and they are very comfortable.
Campfire S’mores Cones Bar
I love putting together fun little build-your-own snack stations for the kids. Today I put together a fun 4th of July campfire cone station using the awesome red, white and blue M&M’s®.
It’s basically s’mores in an ice cream cone and instead of roasting them over a fire, You wrap them in foil and grill. They are delicious and super fun to put together. I used chocolate covered caramels, M&M’s®, butterscotch chips, bananas, mini marshmallows and small sugar cones.
So ooey, gooey and delicious! Highly recommend. OK, back to our home tour. :)
A small bucket with ice and sparkling water is an easy way to share refreshments with impromptu guests.
I had my eye on an amazing white lantern at Pottery Barn, but I found this beauty and Joann Fabrics for $23 and it’s huge! It does the job and adds the look I wanted. This fun plant pot was a Home Goods find.
That’s it! It’s simple and yet completely perfect for us!

Our front porch is one of my favorite spots. It’s bright and lovely and comfortable. It’s perfect for hot days when we need shade and lovely with a light throw blanket on chilly days.
We bought the furniture four years ago at the end of the season. I added the little side table and throw pillows this year. The throw pillows brighten it up and help bring together the yellow front door and pink flowers.
We’ve had our yellow front door for four years and I still love it.
That’s the porch, my favorite place in our entire home!
Are you ready to see the kid zone?
The patio faces our yard where the kids play. Our yard tends to be the place where all the kids from our block congregate and it’s wonderful! We love it! Our driveway is huge and the kids often ride bikes and hang out here too.
Pools and water tables and chalk and bubbles. Life is good in the backyard!
This is the first summer when I can honestly say that we play outside every single day when it’s not raining. It’s so lovely having these outdoor spaces.
As Minnesotans, we only get a few months each year to enjoy outside and we finally have the spaces that make it fun, comfortable and easy to entertain. Now we can take full advantage of the beautiful weather. So grateful for that.
