Planning for baby: Modern, comfortable and affordable nursery rockers and gliders

As we plan for the arrival of our new baby in early June, there are only two things I care much about. Velcro swaddles and a VERY comfortable rocker or glider for the nursery. The rest is just a bonus.

We skimped on the chair for Bodhi’s nursery and with a child who woke up every hour or two for 10 months, we regretted it. At that time, there weren’t many modern options and the ones that existed weren’t very comfortable. I was set on trying them all in person since there were very few reviews for each chair. Now there are many attractive options with reviews on Amazon, Target and more to get a sense for just how comfortable these things are.

Without naming names of a super popular and quite expensive modern chair option, I will say that three of the chairs pictured here are significantly more comfortable than any of the options I had with Bodhi and all are at least $400 less than that very popular chair. I almost fell asleep in the Morgan glider (bottom left) while testing it out at Babies R Us. Depending on boy vs. girl and exactly how the nursery design shakes out, one of these five will end up in our nursery in just a few months.

Top

Babyletto Nara Glider ($799)

Little Castle Charleston glider ($449(

Newco Grand velvet glider (pictured in blue) ($526 on sale)

Bottom

Morgan swivel glider ($499)

Nursery Works Sleepytime rocker ($499)

I’m leaning towards the less expensive options at this point, but hoping to try them all out in person over the next few months because the most comfortable option will win.

I love both of those as well. Of course, I got to try Morgan so I’m partial to it. The look isn’t exactly what I want, but the comfy coziness is. :)

We bought the Monte Luca glider. It’s super comfortable, but we played it safe by doing the upholstery in brown. We’ve always regretted it. I also wish I would have skipped out on the footstool and just got a pouf instead! It would have been cheaper and looked better. We are keeping it for Beckett’s nursery because you don’t splurge that much and not keep it for the 2nd kid!

Nice! I think my preferences in a chair with B would’ve been different than now so it’s probably good we didn’t splurge. Brown will still look great with Beckett’s stuff, right?

I have always coveted the Nursery Works rocker, but like you have not gone for a more expensive option. I did get Kalia’s glider, that I love the style but not necessarily the comfort at Babies R Us during a huge sale- they get rid of older models and bring new ones in and reduce the older models by A LOT.

I am so slacking on all the furniture for baby number 2… due in 6 weeks… eek

You’ll get there! For me, comfort is more important this time. I feel like style matters, but in real life, you hardly notice style once baby arrives.

I splurged on a rocker and don’t have a single regret about it! We picked a fabric that looked nice in our living room so it will be used for many years.

Great idea Ann! We were thinking of finding a fabric that would be nice in our bedroom or family room as well. Glad to hear you don’t regret it one bit.

We skipped the rocker altogether for Waverly’s room. So far I don’t regret it since she has been a really great sleeper. When rocking is required, we just do it in the living room.
