When we scheduled our family lifestyle photo session with Melissa Oholendt last month, I knew it was a good excuse to have lots of fun with my guys. Besides pillow fights, playing sea monster in bed and blowing bubbles outside, I wanted something a little special.
We decided to put together a very simple yet pretty picnic brunch for that morning. We bought peonies from the Farmer’s market and cut hydrangeas from our yard.
We always keep food simple in our home. Fresh baked chocolate croissants, strawberries and coffee were perfect for a Sunday morning in July.
I started looking for a few pretty items, on sale of course, in mid-June once the session was scheduled. I got lucky at Anthropologie. The plates, dish towel, spoons and small fruit bowls were from the summer sale. We owned the tray and the mugs. Then we pulled out a few pretty white vases and set everything up.
It was lovely. Even with a toddler who will only sit still for five or 10 minutes tops.
Get the look
White textured vase ($9.98)
Mirrored butler tray ($99) We bought ours at West Elm last year.
Beaded mug set of four ($13.99) Ours are white typeset coffee mugs from Crate and Barrel which are no longer available.
Dish towel ($24 for set of 3) Ours was actually a sale item at Anthropologie, but it is no longer available.
Mini bowls ($20 for set of 8) You can buy them individually in store for $3.
Melamine plates ($9) We bought three on sale at Anthropologie, but they are no longer available. This pretty Threshold one would look lovely.
We may have to put together Summer brunch picnic at home round two this weekend. Such a peaceful way to spend a morning. What are your plans for the 3-day weekend?

Awww… thanks Kristin! Yes, get over there, but have to tell you the sale I hit up ended a few weeks back. Boo.

This is the sweetest thing ever…just you and your boys hanging out on the front lawn. So cute!
Beautiful photos. My kids love eating outdoors and ask us all the time if we can. We’re hoping the weather will cool off a bit so we can start dining outside on our deck again.
OK…I am so in love with your blog, your family, and your vision. I am so happy to have finally discovered your website!
