Our bright, simple and FUN dinosaur birthday party plan

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen a post a few weeks back with me sharing that I’ve been feeling a bit uninspired by Bodhi’s desire to have a dinosaur party. I have seen SO many dinosaur parties out there and wasn’t coming up with anything original for this year’s  fête. But, after a little thinking and a little accepting that it’s ok if it’s not an original party, I took off with the theme. I’m now SUPER excited about the theme and the bright color palette we chose. And most importantly, I think B will love it all and will have fun.

When I first saw Oh Joy! for Target announced months ago, I knew those colors would be fun for B’s party and would allow me to do a combination of handmade/DIY with some store-bought items for a great party. I just don’t have the time, creative energy etc… for a completely handmade original party this year.

A nursery design, playroom update, finishing B’s big-boy room (FINALLY!) plus two other parties I’m helping to host have taken the best of my creativity. And that’s completely fine! Here is a little peek at what I’m doing for B’s party using a combination of store-bought items (Thanks Oh Joy!), DIY projects (I’ll share soon) and some custom-made items. See the cute dinosaurs in the top left? That was designed by Sarah Maiga Designs and she created several other amazing pieces for this party that I’m SO excited about.

Dinosaur figures. I’ll either paint them or leave them as is for all kinds of things. For example, how cute are the little succulent dinosaur planters below the figures? It would be such an easy DIY for table centerpieces.

Oh Joy! for Target items including the cake stand, HOORAY topper (changed up a bit to fit our theme), balloons, treat bags and napkins.

How dinosaurs say Happy Birthday book. It doesn’t quite fit our color scheme, but I thought this would make a fun guest book and/or party favor for some parties. We’re going a different route for favors this year that is more of an activity than an actual party favor, but I’ll share that soon.

Hello dinosaur book by Dwell Studio. I just love everything Dwell Studio makes and this book is no exception. Such cuteness!

Dinosaur eggs with dinosaurs inside.

Dinosaur cake stand. I couldn’t find one that is available in the U.S., but wow is this thing fabulous or what? The reality is that I’d never use it again, so it’s not at all worth a chunk of my party budget, but one can dream, right?

I’ll be adding some fun desserts and a few other items to the mix, but I’m really keeping it simple this year. Are you planning any parties or rooms right now?

Looks like the makings of another fabulous and fun party! The cake stand is awesome – too bad it is not more practical! Could you turn around and sell it to make it worth it?

Could probably sell it, but never for that price. And I actually can’t find it in the U.S. That’s probably a good thing. :)

I know. Darn cake stand. Almost wish I never would’ve found it, but wondering if I could DIY one using a dinosaur toy and a wood circle piece from Michaels. We’ll see! :) I didn’t know G and H love dinosaurs too. That makes me excited to have them over! YAY!

Rawr! Can’t wait to see what you come up with! Since I have 2 boys with May birthdays I end up justifying everything since it’s a double party! My plan to go simple went out the window…

Ha! Yes, two boys would be trouble. But I’ll be more than 8 months pregnant so I really have to do this right this time. Keep it simple, that is. :)

Thanks Leah! It should be fun. For once, I’m focused almost completely on the kids and not so much on my desire to have perfection.

This looks like so much fun – B is going to have a blast! Do you seriously want Ben to make some cookies for the party? He totally would, and I think he has some dinosaur cookie cutters. Let me know and I can put the wheels in action here. But if you don’t, that’s totally fine, too. :)
