I’ve changed my mind again, friends! I’m going a very different direction with the nursery. I think this is much more my style, even though I was loving the softer design of the other board. The reality is, I like a few bold patterns, bold colors and I want stripes. Is that so wrong? And, I feel like the stars are getting too popular. Yes, how popular something is can be a big turnoff for me.
When we traveled to Sri Lanka, I had some really peaceful moments on the beach. I’ve always loved the beach, but this trip reminded both my husband and I how peaceful the ocean is and how much we love it. And B is a huge fan too. A very subtle beach theme feels right for us, especially as we battle the remains of a very cold, very snowy Minnesota winter.
I was inspired walking through Target (alone) on Saturday. I saw the Spring Decor line of Room Essentials household items which included a pillow that had orange, light teal and grey. Earlier on the same trip, I spotted a cool metal lamp in the same light teal and a wooden whale which I picked up. I was originally hoping to make them work in the new and improved playroom, but the more I looked, the more I realized I wanted them for the nursery and that orange would be a fun accent color.
I’m going to take our teepee apart and make it smaller for the room so it doesn’t take up too much space.
I love the beach and using the beach as inspiration is so much fun. It also is a good mix of peaceful and fun since I’m going with soft teal and bright orange cabana stripes, a slightly unexpected combination, I think.
I love that I can still include clouds, sunshine, boats, whales and other sea life plus even stars. It’s all a part of spending time at the beach, right? The room will be beach-inspired, but not at all themey.
I’m keeping the Hektar light from Ikea simply because I love it and it fits our budget. I’m also going to bring a bit more black and white in throughout, but I’m not sure how yet.
The whale in the photo is not showing the true color. The whale is exactly the color of the lamp next to the glider. I couldn’t believe that they were identical when I got them together, but they were. I’ll color match to some degree to get the accent wall to match them as I love the color, but I’ll have to test a few shades in our room. I’ll either do the rest of the walls white, ivory, keep them grey or may just do the entire room the light teal color. What are your thoughts on that?
Now, for the Target items which include the side table, little stool and basket, which we’ll use as a clothes hamper, if you buy today and use your red card, you will only spend about 53% of the full price, so you save around 47% with the online discount, the additional 15% and the 5% from the Red Card. I actually chose store pickup so I could get them today and you still save that much. With the exception of the basket, none of the other items are on sale in store right now. :) And, with the discount, you will avoid shipping by picking up in store (unless you have the Red Card in which case shipping is free).
The playroom is nearly complete, so the nursery is next. First up though,a Goodwill run (DONE) and a large Craigslist ad filled with stuff from the old playroom and more. Once it’s all gone, we will paint. Exciting!

On the bottom, you can see some pillows, orange striped fabric (from Ikea) and the brown grasscloth swatch. I plan to refinish the bottom of the Babyletto crib with either grasscloth wallpaper, fabric or faux grasscloth contact paper to change the look and make it go with our new room scheme. This will be an interesting DIY. I’ll be sure to report back on it. :)
