Just a little birthday party planning update. Last year I planned B’s first birthday with a very specific and very popular theme-Little Man-all mustaches and ties. While I absolutely loved everything about that day, I have really enjoyed coming up with more original ideas for parties since then. And this year B has a few interests of his own including cows. Let me rephrase that. Cows are his favorite thing ever.
My home design and party style is definitely more on the modern side, so the idea of throwing a cow themed party pretty much paralyzed me for months. When you google or search pinterest for cow birthday parties, you come up with farm parties with hay bails, animals, a big red barn and more. I think all of the farm parties out there are super cute and I’m from a farm town, so doing it on an actual farm would be AMAZING! But, it’s just not my style.
The cow theme had me so stuck that I even told my husband that we were going to skip a party this year and just have a little cake with the three of us and maybe take a trip together. That’s just plain silly for a woman who LOVES throwing a party, but that’s how uninspired I felt for quite a while.
So I admitted that “of course I’m throwing a party for my charming, beautiful, spirited, joy-filled 2-year-old.” He loves parties. Loves cows. And loves having people at our house.
I started brainstorming and after a lot of thought and a lot of time spent trying to come up with some other theme based on B’s other interests, none of which he loves as much as cows, I finally gave in and came up with an idea for a cow themed birthday party that is unique and chic. Yes, Chic cows will be making their way to a party near you…
The cows above are getting a bit of a makeover. You’ve probably seen the painted animals all over Pinterest by now. Well, I’ve been itching to do that, so that little idea from Oh Happy Day will definitely be included even though it’s totally unoriginal at this point.
This party on Hostess with the Mostess was the first animal themed party that really caught my eye and fit my style. And it definitely helped me to find my way with this party. You just don’t see cows out there like you do owls or fox. Woodland animals can be found in a lot of modern parties and nursery designs, but not cows which meant…
I had to make it all up and come up with my own original plan. I’m working with the lovely Shannon of Grace & Guy Paperie Designs once again to come up with original party printables to fit our modern and and VERY graphic second birthday party. I’m doing a TON of do-it-yourself work for this party-more than ever before-everything from cupcake and cake toppers to party hats, garland, painting a kids tables that I scored from a neighbor’s garage sale and more. I can’t wait to share it with you because I’ve really put a focus on keeping this party very budget-friendly. Several of the DIY details cost less than a couple of dollars and some time.
Now I need to get back to party planning. Cheers!
