Today we celebrate one of my closest friends in the world and her baby boy who is expected to arrive towards the end of October. This blog post has the longest title in the seven years this blog has existed. I just had to entice you to read with the Dirty Dancing mention. ;) Watch for signs with a few clever phrases.
I cohosted this watermelon and pineapple baby shower with three of my other dear friends from High School. We’ve all been friends FOREVER! And I’m so grateful. These are the girls I do a trip with every couple of years and no matter how far apart we are (the mama-to-be lives in Baltimore), we stay close always and are there for each other when anyone has a need.
This past year has been a big year of change for this group of five ladies (babies born, personal challenges, job changes and more) so having a day to simply celebrate, enjoy each other and sip some bubbly was lovely! And I have to tell you. These women are the best ever to plan a shower with. They rocked so many aspects of the party, but especially the food which was quite the spread! Are you ready to see the details of this party?!
I’ve been loving store-bought options for cake and cupcake toppers for a while now. These pineapple and watermelon toppers were perfect!
While the shower is definitely about the baby, we chose everything to simply celebrate the mama-to-be, rather than feel like a traditional baby shower. We made sure the signs brought us back to our days watching Dirty Dancing in our bedrooms. “Nobody puts baby in the corner!”
These painted pineapples are not a new or original idea, but wow did they make an impact! We used them on all of the tables. They were easy! Simply spray paint them the color you want, let them dry and they are all set.
The macarons were store bought. The pineapple and watermelon cookies were made by Merci Bakery. HIGHLY recommend!
The cake was made by my friend Mary who runs Gray Duck Bake Shop here in the Minneapolis area. This was the first time I “splurged” on a fun cake and I’m SO glad I did. It looked fantastic on the dessert table.
The dessert table backdrop (along with the party favor tags and all other signs) was designed by Natalie of A Pretty Little Party just for us. She does almost all of my party paper products now. We printed it at Driftwood Printing. This was my first time working with Erica and her team from Driftwood and everything went really well! And for the size, the prices can’t be beat. :)
Party favors were simple and super affordable. We bought watermelon salt water taffy in bulk. We packaged the taffy in simple white bakery bags and finished them off with aqua baker’s twine and a cute party favor tag.
Baby… you are one in a melon! :)
My cohost Angie helped me to show off our little pineapple stickers, a simple yet fun detail. And here is our beautiful friend, the mama-to-be, Katie. Sadly, Katie was under the weather on her shower day which was also the day we went to the Dixie Chicks concert and the Minnesota State Fair. At 32 weeks pregnant, she was SUCH a champ.
This may be the last baby shower I host for a while. I have one more cousin I’m counting on having a baby in the next few years, but that may be it. We loved pouring our hearts and creativity into a pretty day for our amazing, loyal friend Katie.
Oh, and sweet baby Lincoln! I’m flying to Baltimore with Leah (one of the cohosts) in December to help out and give our friend some company. I can’t wait to get my hands on this little guy and my arms around his mama!
Much love, hugs and support,
