This is not so much a how-to post as a help-me post! :) I have been thinking about lighting for our new kitchen since January! Remember this post where I asked for your opinion? Well, none of those pendants are in the running anymore. Yes, nine full months later and still, I spend hours each week searching, researching and debating with myself about how to pick lighting (affordable) to go over our kitchen table and pendants for our kitchen island that are not too matchy-matchy but still work together.

It’s not easy! The other dilemma is about style. Check out my Pinterest board and you will see the battle between contemporary, traditional and everything in between taking place.  I typically love modern design! Bodhi’s nursery is very modern with just a touch of whimsy. Our home has modern touches, but is a tad on the traditional side of things. I know that über modern pendants like the ones I once thought would find their way in, just won’t cut it. At the same time, typical traditional styles won’t do it for me either. And I’m not sure how I feel about the industrial pendants that are all over design sites these days. I want something warm, inviting, semi-casual, but that still puts on a bit of a show.

What I know:

I want a large drum shade pendant over our kitchen table. I like the look and I love the light it gives off. I’ll be able to put a more formal pretty option in our formal dining room if we ever decide to furnish it. This gives off the casual vibe I want for our family room which is attached to the kitchen.

I really like this white drum shade pendant with oil rubbed bronze finish and it is in our budget. I am leaning towards oil rubbed bronze and want a true white shade, so this fits the bill.

I also love this double drum shade pendant from Again, this would be over my kitchen table. What do you think?

There are a few others I love including a pricier option from Crate and Barrel that is beautiful. Here is where it gets tricky.

Do I mix it up and go with pendants I like such as these?

Or do I go with this double drum shade pendant in nickel with the matching pendant below even though it’s a bit out of the price range we wanted and isn’t oil rubbed bronze?

Is it silly that I just want to get it done? I’m a bit impatient with myself at this point because the family room is close to being complete (for now), but these lights are weighing on me. The builder-grade light over our table gives off the worst light and is very unattractive. Your thoughts are both appreciated and welcome! Just don’t be too harsh that I’m considering styles that are SO different from each other. :) Am I the only one struggling with this seemingly insignificant dilemma? Share your favorite light fixtures, lighting shops or any other resources to help make this happen! Please! :)
