I am not a huge sports fan. As a matter of fact, I really had to push myself to accept that football would be a big part of my life in the fall every year once I got married. At our wedding, I promised to support my husband’s love of his Dallas Cowboys by giving him a groom’s cake featuring the Dallas Cowboys.

My husband is a sports freak, and even more-so, a Cowboys freak. He even watched a Cowboys game at the airport on our way home from our honeymoon.

Since my official promise in front of our 225 wedding guests, I bought a maternity Dallas Cowboys shirt and wore it on Sundays. I have hosted football parties, showed enthusiasm for games and have even started to enjoy it. I also make sure that Bodhi has at least one item of Cowboys apparel for every age. Last year, I gave my husband an amazing gift. I decorated our second Christmas tree-the one in the room with the big TV-in Cowboys colors and topped it off with a Cowboys hat. If you’ve ever read this blog, you can imagine how hard that was for me, but it gave my husband a lot of joy on football days. That’s love, my friends! ;)

Before I get to the story about how this all came to be, I wanted to share a quick gift guide for the sports lovers in your life. These are gifts I’m considering for my husband and grandpa this year. All items are from, the sponsor of this post, and all items come with many team logos. Honey if you’re reading, please come back another day. :)

1. Dallas Cowboys glasses
2. Minnesota Vikings hooded sweatshirt
3. Dallas Cowboys full zip hoodie
4. Minnesota Vikings cutting board

So, you may know that we live in Minnesota, also considered Vikings country. How did this happen? My husband grew up in Austin, Texas and he grew up there during the time when the Cowboys were VERY successful. He is committed to his team. He never misses a game and quickly taught Bodhi that when he sees a star, it’s not time to sing “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” anymore. It’s time to shout “Cowboys.” Bodhi chooses to add a little “hut-hut” immediately following the cheer.

When it comes to Christmas giving, my husband always gets a new Cowboys something-something. My family brings Cowboys-themed gifts to Christmas for our annual swap because they know that even if it’s a Snuggie, he is going for it. My mom texts her sincere apologies when his team loses and my family generally shows support despite their fierce love of the Minnesota Vikings. sent us an awesome calendar that I was able to customize for my sports-loving-husband. His favorite part is the schedule of the games. :)

I know I’m not the only one who loses my husband every Sunday for several hours. A few other bloggers have written about this same phenomenon. Do you have a sports freak in your life?
