Five ways to feel fancier instantly

Today I’m turning it over to my lovely new contributor Jenni from A Well Crafted Party. Please welcome Jenni to Live the Fancy Life. She will be here twice each month. And watch out friends, Jenni will be sharing some free printables!

I’m so excited to be a new contributor here on Live the Fancy Life. When Jessica wrote and said that I would be one of her new writers I instantly started writing down ideas for posts. Of course the word “fancy” came into my ideas over and over again. I promise I won’t always write about “Fancy,” however, I thought it appropriate for my very first post!

As a mother of an almost 2-year-old boy, my chances to get dolled up are dwindling. Most days I’m covered in dirt and playing in the yard. The fanciest thing I get to do usually includes indulging in a glass of wine and a hot bath at the end of the day. Makeup is the furthest thing from my mind. Even when I do have the occasion to dress up and flaunt my stuff, I have VERY little time to get my hair, makeup, and outfit ready. Thankfully, I’ve found five quick ways to step up my game, make me feel fancier, and get me some compliments along the way. Maybe some of these tips will help you feel more fancy too!

Five Ways to Feel Fancier Instantly

1. Black Mascara— Swipe on top and bottom lashes, let dry and swipe again.

If I can do nothing else while getting ready for an evening out then I will put on my blackest of black mascaras and some lipstick. Heck, I often do this in the car, after parking, right before running into whichever amazing, kid-free event I’m attending. I have tried several different types of mascara and always come back to using Maybelline’s Great Lash Blackest of Black. The pink tube with the green top is always in my makeup bag.

2. Lipstick— Rock a bright colored lip to magically look more put together and glamorous.

The amazing combination of mascara and lipstick can make my everyday face go to glam in moments. I don’t know what it is about a bright lipstick, but if I put on a swipe of lipstick before leaving I automatically feel more put together. I have about five brightly colored lipsticks I rotate through my makeup bag from all kinds of brands from Wet and Wild to MaryKay. My favorite current lip color is actually not even a lipstick, but Burts Bee’s Tinted Lip Shimmer in Cherry. My lips feel great and are never chapped, but the color goes on just like a good lipstick! It does wear off a little more often than lipstick though, so I carry it with me to reapply.

3. Fitted Clothing— Wear something (top, bottoms, or both) that is form fitting.

Clothing that fits well is good for any body type. Wearing clothing that is form-fitting (not tight) makes the wearer look more confident and hopefully, feel more confident too. I often like to pair a flowy top with form-fitting jeans or a fitted tea with a pair of boyfriend jeans. When I really want to up the game I’ll wear a fitted dress or skinny jeans with a fitted tee and a blazer. (Now that I’m thinking about it, I do this to easily dress my son up as well.) The form-fitting clothes often make me think more about my posture and that overall helps me look more confident as well.

4. Heels (or dressier shoes)— Wearing a nice pair of shoes can put a little more confidence in your step.

I love a good pair of high heels for making me feel fancier instantly. The sound of the click, click, click of my heels makes me feel powerful. The way that heels make me stand up straighter and taller makes me feel sexy. Heels are one of my go to choices to make me feel fancier instantly. However, for those that really don’t like heels, any pair of nice (or favorite) shoes can do the same trick.

5. Fake Eyelashes— Put on a pair of fake eyelashes to draw attention to your expressive, and wonderful face.

I didn’t get into fake eyelashes until very recently. I certainly don’t wear them all the time. When getting dressed up for extra special occasions I love to don a pair of long, lush lashes! The lashes usually take a little getting used to… but, I love them. Wearing the lashes I’ve noticed that people compliment my hair more. Go figure. I don’t like to spend a lot of money on temporary beauty items and eyelashes certainly fit into that category. My current favorite pair of fake eyelashes are the e.l.f. brand fake eyelashes that only cost $1 at Target! I don’t like the e.l.f. glue though, so I purchased another eyelash glue that I use anytime I wear the lashes.

What do you do to feel more fancy?

The pink mascara with the green top is where it’s at. I honestly never remember what brand it is, but it’s the kind I’ve been using since high school.

Right!? Love it. I’ve tried a thousand different kinds (okay, maybe not a thousand) but, I always go back to this stuff.

Great to meet you! Do you have a trick for applying fake eyelashes? Love the look but I struggle getting them. Thanks for the reminder that these things can be easy.

One of the mistakes I made in the very beginning was trying to put the lashes on as soon as I applied the glue to the back of the lashes. What I found out is that eyelash glue needs little time to get tacky. So, I put a line of the glue on the back of my hand, run the eyelash back down the glue, and wait for about 10-20 seconds for the glue to get tacky and then apply. Also, a thick black line of eyeliner will cover many minor mistakes!
