I purchased a giant paper mache letter “B” from Joann Fabrics when I had a 40% off coupon (ended up at $5.99). I wanted it for Bodhi’s birthday. At the last minute I decided to paint it metallic silver and hang it on the front door. When I bought it, I imagined it on the fireplace and thought I would paint it green, but I didn’t have anything for the door other than a smallish sign and silver seemed classy and unexpected for a child’s party.
Plus we had silver incorporated in the party in subtle ways. It worked great. Other than the black wreath holder, I loved it and left it up for almost two weeks. I even considered painting another one with our family’s last name initial as a permanent piece.
There is something bold and striking, yet so simple about a big letter. Unfortunately, our letter would be “F” and it wouldn’t stay with the amount of wind we get here. But if you have a “B”, “P”, “A”, or other closed letters, how cute is this? We put a lot of flowers on our porch in the summer, so another wreath is a bit overkill.
I love that you can see the big letter from quite far away and that it takes up a large amount of our big yellow door. What do you think?

I think it works because your house is large– I wonder how it would work on a smaller home? It’s a clever idea though and I had no idea Joanne’s sold letters that big! Oh and also… Your house is AMAZING!!! Love it!
