Spring time always has me feeling giddy to spend hours outside enjoying our short sunshine filled seasons!

We installed the teeniest tiniest patio last year and we LOVE it! It fits our dinner table and grill just fine. It has made summer so lovely. We enjoy dinner outside many days each week when we used to be stuck inside for dinner time. But, we’ve found that we haven’t always had enough space to host—no place to set food and drinks, for example. I’ve been on the hunt for an outdoor bar cart for more than a year, but I didn’t want to spend a fortune, I wanted the design to be simple and modern and something that would last for years in terms of style. I also wanted it to be a piece that could be put away when not in use since the patio is so small.

When I first saw the hot pink and bright blue bar carts/patio carts at a store I frequent, I loved them and although the colors were pretty I couldn’t imagine having one of those colors for a piece we would use nearly daily. I’m not a fan of paying full price for something I have to paint myself. So when a slightly damaged one (mostly just minor scratches and scuffs) was marked down at one of the three stores I frequent, I knew I had to get it and make it my own with EasyCare paint from True Value.

EasyCare® Premium Décor Spray Enamel is a fast-drying, durable, rust-inhibiting aerosol paint. It provides great coverage on indoor or outdoor furniture, primed wood or metal, plastic and more— in beautiful decorator colors. Whether you’re refreshing old patio furniture or crafting with the family, Premium Décor has you covered.

I’ve long been a fan of using spray paint to achieve the look I desire, but I haven’t taken the time to do that in a while. I forgot how simple it can be and how dramatic the results often are. And while the blue cart is certainly beautiful and could work for many people. It’s just not my style.

Directions

  1. Lightly sand the surface of your item if it’s glossy. In our case, I really only sanded a touch.
  2. Tape off any spots you don’t want painted. On this piece it was really easy. I just taped off the wheels on the bottom. Everything else needed to be white.
  3. Using spray primer, prime your piece. Let it dry for several hours. I actually let it dry overnight.
  4. Spray paint it using smooth motions. We used a slightly off white color in satin finish. I find the satin or flat paint tends to stick better and I planned to finish it off with EasyCare clear gloss anyway so satin was a good choice.
  5. Let it dry again for several hours. In this case, I only let it dry one hour and then applied a second coat.
  6. Finally, spray it with clear coat. I did this for several reasons. I wanted it to have a slightly glossy finish so we could wash it easily. I wanted it to handle any liquids or spills without ruining the finish.

This cart is going to allow us to entertain with ease this summer. We love keeping things simple and with a small patio, we only have the option of easy entertaining. Here are a few tips for keeping things stress free and fun this summer!

  1. Focus on one thing. Instead of serving a meal, try doing just appetizers or just dessert. We love doing cocktails and dessert in the later evening hours.
  2. Use store bought everything. If you love to bake or cook, by all means, do it! If you don’t, simply pick up a beautiful cake or dessert at your local grocery store and call it good!
  3. Serve cans and bottles. Offer one signature drink and then let guests choose from beer, wine or nonalcoholic drinks. Our bar cart allows us to have an ice beverage bucket on the bottom to fill with beer and wine plus some sparkling water and more. I chose to do a simple watermelon cocktail on top for guests who wanted something fun.
  4. Keep decor simple. While over the top parties are EVERYWHERE online, simple details can wow without spending hours planning for a simple happy hour. I love to pick up cute items as I see them and find that plants and candles often make everything feel extra special. Pick up some colorful plates and napkins and your party or happy hour will be perfect.
  5. Use things you own. I always pull stuff from inside my house and from other rooms when entertaining. In this case, you could pull your lanterns and flowers from the front porch to decorate the patio or deck. Or you could grab items off of your fireplace or even dining room table to make your patio look complete.

Who’s ready for some summer fun? We are and we know this cart is going to make entertaining easy and flawless this summer thanks to a couple of bottles of spray paint. Hooray for that!

Cheers to summer!
