Summer is here! We’re spending long days outside playing, swimming, running, jumping, eating fruit pops and ice cream, sipping lemonade and ice tea and more.
My workdays are even spent outside whenever I get the chance. Oh Summer, how I love thee!
My wardrobe this year is all about function and simple style. I have found that while trendy pieces work so well for many women, I’m a fairly classic girl and prefer simple patterns and soft solids. I’ll grab an edgier piece here and there, but for the most part, I stick with the same general style.
Denim, chambray, knits, cotton maxi skirts and dresses plus soft oversized T’s are my go-to pieces on a daily basis. And when I have client meetings, I throw on a cotton pencil skirt with a tank, blouse or chambray. I can easily throw on heels for a meeting and swap them out for gladiator sandals for preschool pick-up and after-childcare fun with the kids.
I put together three easy summer looks in cotton.
Outfit #1: My favorite denim distressed jeans plus a cotton tank and knit vest is an easy laid back outfit for the cooler days of summer. I love having a hot cup of coffee on the porch in the crisp morning air. This one is a go-to when I’m working from home and have no in-person meetings. It’s cozy, cool and looks chic enough in case I have to run an errand. It’s also comfortable enough to chase the kids at the playground after childcare. Perfect.
Outfit #2: While I don’t have many in-person meetings for work, I do once in a while. I keep a few cotton pencil skirts in my closet now. I throw on a blouse, tank or chambray for the perfect laid back yet professional look for meetings. This outfit quickly becomes casual by swapping out the chambray for an oversize T (tucked in just in the front) or a fitted tank. Flip-flops or gladiator sandals can finish off this look in a more casual way.
Outfit #3: Maxi skirts and dresses are my favorite summer outfit this year. Comfortable, casual and chic plus extremely practical, maxis allow me to feel comfortable in any weather. I love layering maxis with cardigans, denim vests or jackets or even a chambray tied in front.
I love finding cotton pieces that work from year to year. Cotton is my fabric of choice in the summer (and all year long really) because it’s breathable, soft, doesn’t retain odors and it’s fashionable plus comfortable. Most cotton doesn’t need to be dry cleaned and can be laundered at home, so it’s easy to take care of. This is a big factor for me.
I love choosing cotton pieces for summer. While the summer brings a lot of joy and activities, sometimes the hot, humid weather can be hard to handle and can be uncomfortable. This summer, Cotton is releasing a new music video that talks about those less glamorous moments and how they can be avoided by simply wearing cotton.
So, pull out your cotton, be carefree and focus on the things you truly enjoy about the summertime.
