I’m sure our nursery plan will change a lot in the coming weeks as we get to work on all of the home changes we need to make, but I wanted to share our initial plan for the nursery for our second baby. I’m hoping to achieve a soft, somewhat modern nursery on a budget with a few whimsical touches for baby boy.
My inspiration comes from a few key needs. I want the nursery to be soothing which is why I chose a minty green for this design board. The paint color is still very up in the air.
That dark Turkish Tile Pantone swatch is pretty much out of the running, but may make an appearance as an accent.
I want to use as many items as we can from our home without spending money. I want to keep the carpet that we have in the room. I much prefer hardwood floors, but Bodhi learned to walk on hardwood and it was stressful all the time. We decided that carpet, while not as pretty, is just so much more comfortable for a baby.
I want to do this on a ridiculously tight budget. After having Bodhi, I now know that we will likely be doing a “big boy room” in just a year or two, so I want to be very careful with our budget on this one. Lastly, I care most about organization and storage. We don’t have the awesome built-in dresser we had with Bodhi here, but I think we can replicate it in some ways. Still working through the changing table/storage piece of this and hoping an Ikea hack or Craigslist find solves a few of our challenges.
I plan to reuse our crib but I am going to paint the bottom wood part with safe paint. Obviously, we’ll be adding art and other elements too, but this gives you a look at the basic feel we’re going for.
Crib: Babyletto Modo. We already own this.
Glider: DwellStudio Myles. We own this after finding a floor model on Craigslist. So lucky! Spent about a quarter of the price.
Mint cart: Ikea. We already own.
White and silver canopy: Home Sweet Play Home from Land of Nod. I love that this piece adds a floor to ceiling attraction and is a great spot for a reading nook for B while I’m feeding or caring for the baby.
Book ledges: Ikea Ribba ($9.99)
Cloud pillow: Collette Bream on Etsy
Nightstand: Land of Nod
Silver lamp and shade: Land of Nod
Plastic rocking armchair (Eames knockoff): Hayneedle.
Silver Coronata star decals on mint green paint : Walls Need Love ($15 for 28)
Star pillow pile: Collette Bream on Etsy.
Cloud mobile: Shop Littles on Etsy.
Book initial: My friend Katie makes these with old books and saws. Hoping to skip Anthro prices and beg her for one. ;) She made our family one recently and we love it!
Mint and tan basket with cover: Land of Nod. I won’t be paying this price. I found one that would work well at Target for around $20 and I’ll keep my eyes peeled at World Market and Home Goods as well.
What do you think? I have a few other design boards coming up in the next few weeks.
