It’s starting to feel like winter in Minnesota. For us, that can mean subzero temperatures, icy sidewalks and more.
Just like every year, we’re already having a hard time keeping our hats, mittens and scarves organized, easy to find and clean. We have two adorably sweet cats who we love oh-so-much, but those same cuties get hair on EVERYTHING! We used to store our winter accessories in a basket in our foyer table at our old house, but it made for a hairy mess. A new system was needed this year…
Now we have a coat closet. Hooray! We also have a mudroom, but that’s a story for another day. So far, we’ve been using it for lightbulb, cord, vacuum and cleaning supplies storage-this will change soon.
Then I came across this.
When I found the Rationell Variera trash basket at Ikea last week for just $3.99, I immediately thought it would be cool for our bathrooms under the sink attached to the door. Then I realized that while it is technically a trash basket, it could be perfect attached to our coat closet door to hold mittens, hats etc… I bought only one thinking that we’d try it out first since the design is fine, but maybe not quite as cute as I’d like.
Two screws later, we filled it up and suddenly I didn’t care that it wasn’t the most adorable thing. It’s behind the door, after all.
So far, it has been a huge success. I plan to buy two more-one for each of us and put a cute little sign on each one or possibly just an initial. What easy little household changes have made a difference for you? I’d love to know! Sometimes it really is the simplest things in life…
